Throwback Thursday #7

A lot of great dance music has been produced over the years. To ensure that these tracks will never be forgotten, we will post a once-thriving track every Thursday! We feel it’s a necessary refreshment of the past that will be sure to bring back memories. Hopefully it will give you the same awesome feelings that it had once given us. This week we have chosen: Move For Me by Kaskade & Deadmau5!

Genre: Progressive House - Label: Ultra Records - Release Date: 14 May 2008

“Another night out, another dance floor… Move for me, I’ll move for you…” These trance-inducing lyrics, sung by Haley, have been serenading club goers long into the night ever since the release of Kaskade’s critically acclaimed album, ”Strobelite Seduction,” in the summer of 2008. Deadmau5′s signature chord progressions in combination with Kaskade’s deep-house drum lines layered by Haley’s whispering lyrics proved to be a platinum combination to say the least. Their massive success led them to collaborate once more on yet another project of grand proportions; It’d only be a mere 4 months until both Ryan and Joel would release their #1 hit, “I Remember.” We hope you will all enjoy this week’s selection!

Throwback Thursday #4

A lot of great dance music has been produced over the years. To ensure that these tracks will never be forgotten, we will post a once-thriving track every Thursday! We feel it’s a refreshment of the past and we hope this track will bring back memories and that it will give you the same awesome feeling that it had once given us. This week we have chosen: Strobe by Deadmau5!

Beautiful… Strobe is arguably one of the greatest electronic songs ever made. I believe it is one of the best songs due to its ability to elicit a wide variety of emotions through its complexity in sound. Strobe transcends from a calmed and relaxed state of mind, which has your embrace from the very first second, into a more “upbeat” progressive energy through every kick and clap backing an energetic synth-lead. It’s crystalline melody, deep symphonic pads, and jungle-like percussion educe a coma-like state in its listener. Deadmau5 utilizes numerous musical elements through a constant cycle of build-ups and breakdowns; after a calmed section of airy bells, a deep piano carrying a whizzing, string concerto embraces your eardrums. After fading away, he builds into his signature chord progressions and energetic kick lines. After being broken down once more, a purely electric synthesizer carries the song onward until its end. Even as the song fades off into nothing, the energy carries on in you. This is why I believe Strobe will forever be a “timeless” piece. The song never really ends, the energy never dies…
