Hi Guys! How are you doing?
Hello. Thank you, we are all good! Just touring in the USA right now.
Excited for your upcoming release ‘You Are Like Nobody Else’? Can you tell us something about it?
Yes, for sure. It will be the third release of our label imprint called SHOWLAND. Two bands and one vocalist created this song, so three names are in the title: Swanky Tunes, Peking Duk and James McNally. This song was recorded in three cities: Sydney, Melbourne and our native Smolensk. Now it looks like a kind of magic and hope this magic will help to hit dance charts around the world. Cross fingers!
Why did you choose to start your own label?
Last summer we realized our tracks were released on all labels we wanted before. Now we’d like to create strong label where we could release music of Swanky Tunes and another producers. This is a challenge for us and the next step in our career.
Where did the idea come from to start a DJ-trio?
That was a long time ago. 1998 was the year of our first performance as a live act and we even hadn’t thought about DJing. Only several years later we realized that DJing gives much more freedom during performance. It lets you interact with audience and brings more good vibes.
How is it for a DJ-trio to work in the studio and on the road? Are you guys with each other 24/7 or do you still have time for your private life?
Absolutely no. We tour as two persons only. So one of us is always on a studio and of course that one has a time for private life, but other two have to keep patience until tour will be finished (laughing).
Do you guys also DJ as a trio, because at the Mixmash Label Night during the ADE there was only one of you playing?
Yes, we do, but at some events only. Regarding ADE 2012, we couldn’t be there all together, cause we had a tour in Australia. But last year we were at Miami Music Week and played as a trio at Mixmash Pool Party. This year we’ll come back to Miami as trio as well to introduce our label party called SHOWLAND.
You guys made a guestmix for us in November, thanks for that. Have music blogs had any influence in your career?
You’re always welcome! Of course blogs have a big influence on a career of many DJs and producers. Blogs are the big part of social media and we have to thank them for support of Swanky Tunes name.
What is it that makes Swanky Tunes more successful than other talented artists in Russia?
We definitely don’t know who’s the biggest one in Russia. All Russian EDM artists we know are our good friends and we prefer to collab than to compete.
